Worship is one of the basic ways people learn what it means to be Christian. Children learn worship by worshipping with the congregation Sunday after Sunday.

  • They learn they belong to Christ and are welcome in His Church.
  • They learn to know the Lord’s Prayer and other parts of the liturgy from memory.
  • They build a fund of memorable, shared experiences of Christian community against which they may draw when they are older.
  • They are enriched by the beauty of music and art as expressions of praise and as human responses to God.

  1. My hands are small. Please don’t expect perfection whenever I make a bed, draw a picture or throw a ball. My legs are short. Please slow down so that I can keep up with you.
  2. My eyes have not seen the world as yours have. Please let me explore safely. Don’t restrict me unnecessarily.
  3. Housework will always be there. I’m only little for such a short time. Please take time to explain things to me about this wonderful world, and do so willingly.

To: YOU
Date: TODAY
From: THE BOSS
Subject: YOURSELF
Reference: LIFE

I am God. Today I will be handling all of your problems. Please remember that I do not need your help.

If life happens to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, do not attempt to resolve it. Kindly put it in the SFGTD (something for God to do) box. All situations will be resolved, but in My time, not yours.

Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold onto it by worrying about it. Instead, focus on all the wonderful things that are present in your life now.

  1. When your children comes home from school today, smile when he or she walks through the door. Do that several days in a row and your children will actually look forward to coming home!
  2. Next time your children tries to be funny…laugh.
  3. Make a list of all the things your children does that makes you mad. Now, go through the list and cross off all the stuff that doesn’t really matter. Save your anger only for those things which have lasting moral consequences.

1. There’s a preacher and wife who are very, very, poor. They already have 14 children. Now she finds out she’s pregnant with 15th. They’re living in tremendous poverty. Considering their poverty the excessive world population, would you consider recommending she get an abortion?

2. The father is sick with sniffles, the mother has TB. They have 4 kids. 1st is blind, 2nd is deaf, 3rd is deaf, 4th has TB. She finds she’s pregnant again. Given the extreme situation, would you consider recommending abortion?

I am not sure where this originated from, but someone taught me this as an easy way to remember the ten commandments. As far as I know this only works for the KJV of the text….

OUR GOD NOW SHOWS HIS KIDS ABOUT SIN WITH COMMANDMENTS

Say the sentence together several times and then go through each commandent associated with the memory key. Each time you add a commandment repeat the key sentence again.

O – Other – “Thou shalt have none other gods before me”
OUR GOD NOW SHOWS HIS KIDS ABOUT SIN WITH COMMANDMENTS

G – Graven – “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image”
OUR GOD NOW SHOWS HIS KIDS ABOUT SIN WITH COMMANDMENTS

N – Name – “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”
OUR GOD NOW SHOWS HIS KIDS ABOUT SIN WITH COMMANDMENTS

Pastor Joe Wright of Kansas was asked to lead the Kansas State Senate in prayer.

They were expecting the usual formal prayer to open the session but that is not what happened. The pastor used the moment as a confessional and prophetic opportunity. As he prayed there were some senators who got up and walked out but Paul Harvey got a hold of the prayer and read it on his program; he got more requests for copies of it than any other thing he had ever done. Here¹s what he prayed:

Fact: As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird following. By flying in a “V” formation, the whole flock adds 71% to the flying range than if each bird flew alone.

Lesson: People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier when they are traveling on the thrust of one another.

Fact: Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to fly alone, and quickly gets back in formation to take advantage of the “lifting power” of the bird immediately in front.

Attributed to Sharon L. Bowman, Lake Tahoe

An older boy named Joey, his dog, Buster, and his younger buddy, Brian, are standing on the lawn in front of Joey’s house. Joey turns to Brian and says boastfully, “I taught Buster how to whistle.”

Brian looks at the dog for what seems like an eternity, then looks at his friend, and says, “Show me.” So they both look at the dog. The dog just stands there wagging his tail with his tongue hanging out.

Just got this great teaching / sermon illustration for Zig Ziglar’s Newsletter. Would be great for a children’s sermon or children’s talk and addresses a common concern among today’s children. Many are asking “What is my gift and how can I develop it and use it?” This illustration of a famous whittler provides a fresh perspective on gifts.
